The ease small is the ideal first backpack for kindergarten children. At just 270 grams it's feather-light and doesn't burden little shoulders. Despite its compact dimensions it offers 6 litres of storage for a lunch box, cuddly toy and change of clothes. The integrated bottle holder in the main compartment is especially clever: it prevents leaked drinks from soaking the entire contents of the backpack – perfect for children who are still practising screwing the bottle shut.

The soft back padding and the height-adjustable chest strap ensure pleasant carrying comfort, even on longer outings. With the swappable Klettie system, every ease small becomes a one-of-a-kind – from a bear and a dinosaur to home-made motifs.

The ergobag mini sets new standards for kindergarten backpacks: as the only model in the range it has a hip belt that, together with the chest strap, distributes the weight optimally across the hips and shoulders – genuine carrying-system technology from the trekking world, implemented in a child-friendly way. With 10 litres of volume it effortlessly swallows a lunch box, cuddly toys and even A4 exercise books for pre-school.

The two side mesh pockets offer extra storage for a water bottle and umbrella. ergobag turns PET bottles into high-quality kids' backpacks: depending on the model, between 9 and 16 recycled 0.5-litre bottles go into each backpack. This consistent circular economy reduces plastic waste and conserves valuable resources. All textiles are made from 100% recycled polyester – a real statement for environmentally conscious choices that begins as early as kindergarten age.

Wir hatten bei Ranzen-Kontor einen wirklich bezaubernden Termin zur ersten Einschulung unseres ältesten Sohnes. Ein besonderer Moment, den sich die Oma nicht nehmen lassen wollte und die den Schulranzen spendiert hat. Die Beratung war absolut kompetent, sowohl was Qualität und Funktionalität angeht als auch in Sachen Rückengesundheit. Es wurde wirklich alles getestet, wie der Ranzen beim Laufen, Rennen und Springen sitzt und komplett auf unseren Sohn eingestellt. Da er für sein Alter schon relativ groß ist, kamen manche Modelle infrage, andere nicht. Genau das wurde fachlich sauber berücksichtigt. Trotzdem durfte er sich am Ende selbst für sein Wunschmodell entscheiden, samt seiner Lieblingsthematik "Star Wars". Ganz besonders hervorheben möchten wir die Verkäuferin Tina, die uns mit sehr viel Fachwissen und gleichzeitig unfassbarer Herzlichkeit begleitet hat. Unser Sohn konnte seinen Namen stolz an die Tafel schreiben und mit seinem neuen Schulranzen ein Erinnerungsfoto mit Urkunde machen. Dazu gab es noch tolle Extras wie eine Sammelmappe, Patches und Reflektoren für den Schulweg. Es wurde wirklich an alles gedacht. Das ist etwas völlig anderes, als einen Schulranzen anonym online zu bestellen. Hier trifft Fachkompetenz auf Herzlichkeit und Empathie, die einen Schulranzenkauf zu einer unvergesslichen Kindheitserinnerung machen. Dafür von Herzen Danke und viele Grüße von Vincent und Familie.

Your top questions about buying a school bag

Is there a guarantee or warranty on ergobag?

ergobag grants the statutory 2-year warranty on all backpacks from the date of purchase. In the event of manufacturing faults or material damage you can contact ergobag directly or come into our shop – we'll help with the process. Important: normal signs of use such as wear, stains or wear and tear from intensive use are not covered by the warranty. The robust materials are designed to withstand everyday daycare life with ease, though. And if a zip does get stuck or a seam comes apart, just let us know!

How long do children typically use their ergobag?

Most children use their ergobag throughout their entire daycare years – often 2-3 years. Many backpacks are then passed on to younger siblings or carried on as a sports bag during the transition to primary school. The quality handles that with ease. Important: the ease small usually becomes too small at around 5 years (too little volume), at which point switching to the ease large or mini makes sense. The mini, on the other hand, often accompanies children right up to the school bag. Thanks to the adjustable straps, the backpack grows along.

My child is 4 years old – which ergobag fits best?

For 4-year-olds we recommend either the ease small or the mini, depending on height and intended use. The ease small (270g, 6 litres) is perfect for petite children or when only the essentials are taken along – lunch box, cuddly toy, light jacket. The mini (500g, 10 litres) offers more room and additionally has a hip belt, which is an advantage on longer outings or for more active children. It's best to come in with your child to see us by Friedrichstraße Station – we'll try things on together and find what fits best and feels good for your child.

Can I also order ergobag backpacks online from the Ranzen-Kontor?

At the moment we focus on the personal shopping experience in our shop by Friedrichstraße Station. The reason: every child is built differently – back length, shoulder width and build vary considerably. Only by trying it on does it become clear whether a backpack really suits a child's back and sits comfortably. Our expert advisers check the fit, adjust the straps precisely and make sure nothing digs in or rubs. At the same time, your child can compare different models and choose their favourite design themselves – which boosts their enthusiasm enormously. An online shop isn't currently available, but you're welcome to contact us by phone on 030 23 00 20 23. We'll advise you in advance and happily reserve backpacks. Drop by, daily from 10 am to 8 pm!

Are ergobag kids' backpacks really sustainable, or is it just marketing?

ergobag takes sustainability seriously: every backpack is made from 100% recycled polyester, obtained from old PET bottles. Depending on the model, between 9 and 16 bottles go into a single backpack. Production is subject to strict environmental standards, all materials are PFC-free and water-repellent without harmful chemicals. ergobag is part of the FOND OF group, which reports transparently on supply chains and production conditions. This isn't greenwashing but measurable circular economy. For environmentally conscious families it's a genuine alternative – your child learns from an early age that quality and sustainability go hand in hand.

Do we need to book an appointment for a consultation?

That depends on what you have planned – and when.

For a detailed expert fitting for a first school bag, we recommend booking an appointment in advance. That way we can take plenty of time, try several models together and respond to your child individually – in a calm setting and without time pressure. Booking by appointment lets us keep the fitting relaxed and pleasant for your child and avoid unpleasant waiting times wherever possible. That's why families with an appointment always take priority with us.

When an appointment is especially important:

  • On all Saturdays
  • From Easter onwards, during the high season

On weekdays in January and February it often works spontaneously without an appointment, too.

For suitcases, adult backpacks, school rucksacks from year 4 onwards and daycare backpacks you usually don't need an appointment – we're there for you flexibly even without a reservation, perhaps with a short wait.

It's best to book your appointment directly via our online calendar – that way we can plan our consultation times optimally and make sure we can focus entirely on you during your visit. We look forward to seeing you!
