KWIO is a young German brand founded by designer Thorsten Frackenpohl. With over 20 years of experience in product development – and as a father himself – he knows what really matters in a school rucksack. The result is the BAGG: a thoughtfully designed rucksack that accompanies children from their first day of school well into their primary-school years. The carrying system grows with them in both length and width, adapting to any height between 100 and 150 cm. Instead of printed motifs, KWIO relies on timeless colour combinations – so the rucksack still looks great years later.

The BAGG weighs 1,300 grams and, thanks to its roll-top closure, offers a flexible volume of 19 to 22 litres. The special part: the carrying system grows not only in length but can also be adjusted in width to fit every child's build. So the rucksack always sits perfectly, from the first day of school to year four.

The large front pockets have room for a lunch box and water bottle, and the closures are made especially for children's hands. The BAGG comes as a 5-piece set and is reflective across its whole surface – plus neon swap covers are included. All colour combinations are deliberately designed without motifs, so the rucksack stays appealing and brings joy for as long as possible.

The carrying system of the KWIO BAGG

The BAGG's carrying system was developed specifically to grow with children – and not just in length, but in width too. This is made possible by the V-shaped arrangement of the shoulder straps. When you adjust the length, the width changes automatically, so the rucksack always matches the child's height and build. The BAGG is designed for children between 100 and 150 cm tall.

The straps themselves are softly padded, adjust steplessly and sit comfortably on the shoulders. An adjustable chest strap secures the rucksack additionally. At the back, strong padding ensures nothing digs in. The hip fins distribute the weight onto the hips, so not everything rests on the shoulders. Inside, the book compartment sits right against the back – keeping heavy books close to the body so the rucksack doesn't pull backwards.

KWIO relies on recycled polyester. Used PET bottles are melted down and processed into new yarn. This saves raw materials, uses less energy than producing new plastic and gives old materials a second life.

Wir hatten bei Ranzen-Kontor einen wirklich bezaubernden Termin zur ersten Einschulung unseres ältesten Sohnes. Ein besonderer Moment, den sich die Oma nicht nehmen lassen wollte und die den Schulranzen spendiert hat. Die Beratung war absolut kompetent, sowohl was Qualität und Funktionalität angeht als auch in Sachen Rückengesundheit. Es wurde wirklich alles getestet, wie der Ranzen beim Laufen, Rennen und Springen sitzt und komplett auf unseren Sohn eingestellt. Da er für sein Alter schon relativ groß ist, kamen manche Modelle infrage, andere nicht. Genau das wurde fachlich sauber berücksichtigt. Trotzdem durfte er sich am Ende selbst für sein Wunschmodell entscheiden, samt seiner Lieblingsthematik "Star Wars". Ganz besonders hervorheben möchten wir die Verkäuferin Tina, die uns mit sehr viel Fachwissen und gleichzeitig unfassbarer Herzlichkeit begleitet hat. Unser Sohn konnte seinen Namen stolz an die Tafel schreiben und mit seinem neuen Schulranzen ein Erinnerungsfoto mit Urkunde machen. Dazu gab es noch tolle Extras wie eine Sammelmappe, Patches und Reflektoren für den Schulweg. Es wurde wirklich an alles gedacht. Das ist etwas völlig anderes, als einen Schulranzen anonym online zu bestellen. Hier trifft Fachkompetenz auf Herzlichkeit und Empathie, die einen Schulranzenkauf zu einer unvergesslichen Kindheitserinnerung machen. Dafür von Herzen Danke und viele Grüße von Vincent und Familie.

Does the KWIO BAGG come as a set?

Yes, the BAGG is a 5-piece set. It includes the rucksack, a pencil case (unfilled), a slip case, a gym bag and a rain cover. There are also neon swap covers for the front pockets that add even more visibility in the dark. All the pieces are colour-matched to the respective BAGG.

What accessories does KWIO offer?

To go with the BAGG, KWIO offers the SNAPP chest pouch and the WRAPP rain cover. The rain cover is waterproof and also retro-reflective coated – so your child stays clearly visible even in the rain. The accessories are colour-matched to the respective BAGG variant. We keep both in stock at our store.

What colours are available for the KWIO BAGG?

The BAGG comes in various two-tone combinations – for example dark blue/yellow, mint/orange or purple/yellow-orange. KWIO deliberately avoids printed motifs so the look still appeals years later.

Yes, the BAGG has a full-surface retro-reflective coating. When light hits it, the entire rucksack lights up. Neon swap covers are also included for even more visibility.

How does the grow-along carrying system work?

The BAGG is designed for children between 100 and 150 cm tall. Two hook-and-loop straps at the bottom of the rucksack let you adjust the shoulder straps. The clever part: when you adjust the length, the width of the straps changes automatically too. So the BAGG grows along – not just upwards, but in width as well. Soft straps and strong back padding ensure an even weight distribution.

Can I reserve the KWIO BAGG?

Yes, we'll happily set your preferred BAGG aside for you. Just drop us an email or give us a call. Alternatively, you can pop into our store by Friedrichstraße Station – there you can try the BAGG on, compare the colours and get personal advice.

Do we need to book an appointment for a consultation?

That depends on what you have planned – and when.

For a detailed expert fitting for a first school bag, we recommend booking an appointment in advance. That way we can take plenty of time, try several models together and respond to your child individually – in a calm setting and without time pressure. Booking by appointment lets us keep the fitting relaxed and pleasant for your child and avoid unpleasant waiting times wherever possible. That's why families with an appointment always take priority with us.

When an appointment is especially important:

  • On all Saturdays
  • From Easter onwards, during the high season

On weekdays in January and February it often works spontaneously without an appointment, too.

For suitcases, adult backpacks, school rucksacks from year 4 onwards and daycare backpacks you usually don't need an appointment – we're there for you flexibly even without a reservation, perhaps with a short wait.

It's best to book your appointment directly via our online calendar – that way we can plan our consultation times optimally and make sure we can focus entirely on you during your visit. We look forward to seeing you!
