Wir hatten bei Ranzen-Kontor einen wirklich bezaubernden Termin zur ersten Einschulung unseres ältesten Sohnes. Ein besonderer Moment, den sich die Oma nicht nehmen lassen wollte und die den Schulranzen spendiert hat. Die Beratung war absolut kompetent, sowohl was Qualität und Funktionalität angeht als auch in Sachen Rückengesundheit. Es wurde wirklich alles getestet, wie der Ranzen beim Laufen, Rennen und Springen sitzt und komplett auf unseren Sohn eingestellt. Da er für sein Alter schon relativ groß ist, kamen manche Modelle infrage, andere nicht. Genau das wurde fachlich sauber berücksichtigt. Trotzdem durfte er sich am Ende selbst für sein Wunschmodell entscheiden, samt seiner Lieblingsthematik "Star Wars". Ganz besonders hervorheben möchten wir die Verkäuferin Tina, die uns mit sehr viel Fachwissen und gleichzeitig unfassbarer Herzlichkeit begleitet hat. Unser Sohn konnte seinen Namen stolz an die Tafel schreiben und mit seinem neuen Schulranzen ein Erinnerungsfoto mit Urkunde machen. Dazu gab es noch tolle Extras wie eine Sammelmappe, Patches und Reflektoren für den Schulweg. Es wurde wirklich an alles gedacht. Das ist etwas völlig anderes, als einen Schulranzen anonym online zu bestellen. Hier trifft Fachkompetenz auf Herzlichkeit und Empathie, die einen Schulranzenkauf zu einer unvergesslichen Kindheitserinnerung machen. Dafür von Herzen Danke und viele Grüße von Vincent und Familie.

Wir haben hier einen Koffer gekauft und finden: Ein Geschäft „wie früher” - und das mitten im Zentrum von Berlin! Tolle Preise, große Auswahl, exzellente Beratung plus (entgegen aller Vorurteile über Berlin) große Freundlichkeit. Die Verkäuferin hat uns mit viel Geduld die jeweiligen Vorteile der verschiedenen Kofferalternativen erläutert. Am Ende haben wir uns für einen Travelite-Koffer mit drei Jahren Garantie entschieden, der im Angebot war. Sympathischer Besitzer an der Kasse, der den Eindruck erweckt, dass hier jemand sein Geschäft mit Herzblut führt, „wie früher“ halt. Sechs Sterne! :-)

Before we look at the first models together, we start by working out what matters most to you. Do you have a particular brand in mind, should the satchel be especially light, is plenty of capacity important, should ergonomics come first – or maybe all of the above? We'll figure it out together. For a new schoolchild, the look is surely the most important thing of all, but before we pick out the coolest-looking model, we first test which satchel suits your back best. After all, you'll be carrying this satchel around Berlin for at least 3, probably even 4 years – and every single day.

Once we've sorted out your priorities for choosing a satchel, it's time for the big try-on. All our satchels carry ergonomic seals and certificates, and yet they still differ in their actual design – just as every child has their own needs and requirements. So we try on several models together to see which ones fit well and which don't. We keep going until the most important sentence of the day is finally spoken: "This backpack is really comfy – I want to wear it to school every day!"

These days, every brand offers interchangeable motifs – meaning you can swap the design whenever you like. You could start Year 1 with a unicorn satchel and, with very little effort, turn it into a dolphin or mermaid satchel for Year 2, then something completely different again in Years 3 and 4. And of course, we'll show you exactly how it all works.

4The crowning finish to your visit

Your personal satchel certificate

Your visit ends with your very own personal satchel certificate. Together we'll write your name on a little board, then photograph you with your new satchel in front of it and turn it into a certificate. It's not just a wonderful memento of this special day for you – you can also share it with Grandma, Grandpa, aunts, uncles and all your friends, and show them what a fantastic satchel you've chosen. Now you're perfectly equipped for your first day at school, with lots of exciting adventures ahead!

When should we book an appointment to buy a school satchel?

It's best to plan the satchel purchase as early as spring, so there's plenty of time before the first day of school and you can choose a model completely at your leisure. Most children can hardly wait to start school and are very excited in the weeks beforehand. Buying the satchel is an important milestone and a lovely way to prepare for this new chapter. In our experience, the most popular colours and motifs, along with certain limited editions, often sell out after Easter. The closer the start of school gets, the smaller the selection becomes – though that can have its upsides too.

What's the best way to book an appointment with you?

We'll then get in touch with you promptly to arrange an appointment for your personal consultation. This expert consultation takes around an hour, giving us plenty of time to find just the right model for your child.

How do I find the right model for my child?

The best way to find the right model is to try it on. Book an appointment and come and see us at Bahnhof Friedrichstraße in Berlin, so we can try on different models together and adjust each one individually to your child's back to find the perfect fit. That way, it's not only the look that's spot on, but above all the ergonomic fit.

Why shouldn't you buy your first school satchel online?

Nothing beats personal advice and trying the satchel on. Almost every brand has now developed and certified an ergonomic fit – but whether a particular design really works for your back is something you can only feel once you try it on and move around in it. The differences between models (even within the same brand) are surprisingly large. And remember, your back is still growing and changing over the coming years, and you'll be carrying this satchel to school and back home almost every day – so it really should fit beautifully, not just feature a favourite motif or a great brand name.

Can I order the satchels from you online as well?

Because personal advice and trying things on matter so much to us, we don't currently run an online shop. You're very welcome, though, to reserve a particular model with us in advance to try on, and we'll happily order directly for you if something isn't in stock at the time (which is rare). And if you've got a long journey to us, we're glad to send the satchel to your home free of shipping costs as soon as it arrives.

Which brands can I choose from in your shop?

We carry 12 different brands in total, including all the well-known satchel names such as Ergobag, Step by Step, Scout, DerDieDas, School Mood, Beckmann, Lässig and McNeill – and several more besides. Each brand offers various models and designs, so we're sure to have the right model in the right look for your child. What's more, unlike shopping online, here you can compare backpacks from different brands side by side: you can see and feel the shape, the texture, the materials, the capacity and the colour right there in store. Feel free to bring along all your gear and test for yourself whether everything fits!

Do you also offer accessories for the satchels in your shop?

We offer you the complete package for a relaxed start to school. Most satchels come as a set, with a matching gym bag and a coordinating pencil case in the same design. Some manufacturers also offer extra items such as a neck pouch or decorative add-ons ("Kletties", Magic Mags, Funny Snaps and more) for the satchels. You can pick up all of these directly in our Berlin shop to go with your satchel.
